Treatment approaches for feline salmonellosis depend on disease severity and the cat's overall health status. Mild cases often resolve with supportive care including fluid therapy and dietary management, without antibiotic treatment. In fact, unnecessary antibiotic use in uncomplicated cases may prolong Salmonella shedding and contribute to antibiotic resistance without improving outcomes. Severely affected cats and those with systemic infection require hospitalization, aggressive fluid support, and appropriate antibiotic therapy. Veterinary consultation is essential for proper diagnosis and treatment planning, as the zoonotic potential of this infection necessitates careful management. With appropriate care, most cats recover fully, though some may continue shedding Salmonella in their feces for extended periods after clinical recovery.
