For backyard poultry keepers, an avian influenza diagnosis often means the heartbreaking loss of entire flocks and may result in restrictions on keeping poultry in the future.
There is no specific treatment for avian influenza in poultry, and vaccination, while available in some regions, is subject to strict regulations and may not be permitted in many countries due to concerns about masking infection in vaccinated birds. Prevention through rigorous biosecurity measures remains the primary defense against this disease. Understanding the routes of transmission, recognizing clinical signs, and implementing comprehensive biosecurity protocols are essential for all poultry keepers.
