Other soft tissue tumors including leiomyomas, nerve sheath tumors, and various sarcomas enter the differential diagnosis. Even cysts and hematomas can present as mass lesions. Accurate diagnosis through tissue examination ensures appropriate treatment selection and accurate prognostic counseling.

Potential complications of fibrous tissue tumors include local invasion for malignant fibrosarcomas, which can damage adjacent structures and cause functional impairment. Metastatic spread, primarily to lungs but potentially to other organs, represents the most serious complication of fibrosarcomas and dramatically worsens prognosis. Secondary infection may develop if tumor surfaces ulcerate or become traumatized. Large tumors can interfere with movement, feeding, or other normal functions depending on location. Paraneoplastic syndromes, systemic effects of cancer not directly related to tumor location, occasionally occur with various malignancies. Post-surgical complications including wound healing problems, infection, and recurrence require monitoring during recovery. Recognition and prompt management of complications supports optimal outcomes for affected birds.
