The impact of dermatophytosis on affected birds ranges from mild cosmetic issues to significant skin damage and discomfort depending on the extent and location of infection. Affected areas typically show scaling, crusting, feather loss, and sometimes the characteristic circular lesions that give the condition its common name. Beyond physical effects, the constant irritation can cause behavioral changes including increased preening, scratching, and restlessness.
