Russian Doodle Terrier

The Black Russian Terrier is a large, powerful, and imposing working dog that was developed by the Soviet military to serve as a guard and patrol dog. Males typically stand 27 to 30 inches at the shoulder, while females measure slightly smaller at 26 to 29 inches. Weight ranges from 80 to 130 pounds, with males being substantially heavier than females. The breed presents a robust, well-muscled frame that combines substantial bone structure with athletic capability. Despite its considerable size, the Black Russian Terrier should appear balanced and coordinated rather than cumbersome, capable of sustained physical activity in demanding conditions. The breed's distinctive coat is one of its most notable features, consisting of a coarse, slightly wavy outer coat over a softer, denser undercoat. The coat ranges from 1.5 to 4 inches in length and is weatherproof, providing protection against harsh Russian winters. As the name suggests, black is the standard color, though a small amount of gray hair interspersed throughout the coat is acceptable. The facial furnishings are particularly striking, with a pronounced beard and mustache that give the breed a dignified and somewhat stern appearance. A fall of hair covers the eyes, adding to the breed's characteristic look while still allowing adequate vision. The head is powerful and moderately long, with a flat skull and noticeable but not pronounced stop. The muzzle is slightly shorter than the skull and tapers slightly toward the nose without appearing snipey. The eyes are medium-sized, oval-shaped, and dark in color, set obliquely and conveying an alert and intelligent expression. The ears are triangular, set high, and hang with the front edge close to the cheek. The neck is thick and muscular, blending smoothly into well-laid-back shoulders. The tail is traditionally docked, though natural tails are acceptable in many countries. The breed typically lives 10 to 12 years.

The Standard Poodle is an elegant, medium-to-large dog that carries itself with an air of dignity and pride while possessing genuine athletic ability. The breed stands over 15 inches at the shoulder, with most individuals measuring 18 to 24 inches tall. Males typically weigh 60 to 70 pounds, while females range from 40 to 50 pounds. The body is squarely built, meaning the length from breastbone to point of rump approximately equals the height from the ground to the highest point of the shoulder. This balanced proportion creates an impression of grace and symmetry that defines the breed's appearance. The Poodle's coat represents its most distinctive and recognizable feature. Unlike most dogs that possess fur with a defined growth cycle, the Poodle has hair that grows continuously and must be regularly trimmed. The coat is naturally curly and very dense, with a texture that ranges from soft waves to tight ringlets. This unique coat structure means that shed hair tends to become trapped within the coat rather than falling onto furniture and floors, contributing to the breed's reputation as a suitable choice for people with allergies. The coat comes in a remarkable variety of solid colors recognized by the American Kennel Club, including black, white, brown, gray, apricot, red, silver, cream, cafe au lait, silver beige, and blue. The head is moderately rounded with a slight but definite stop, and the muzzle is long and straight with fine chiseling under the eyes. The oval-shaped eyes are set far apart and convey an alert, intelligent expression. Most Poodles have very dark, nearly black eyes, though amber eyes occur in dogs with lighter coat colors. The ears are long and wide, hanging close to the head with abundant feathering. The tail is set and carried high, traditionally docked in countries where the practice remains legal. The breed displays remarkable longevity, with a typical lifespan of 10 to 18 years.
