The Chimation is a cross between the Chihuahua and the Dalmatian. Because each hybrid inherits a unique combination of traits from both parents, we recommend thoroughly researching both breeds before choosing a Chimation. Chihuahua
The Chihuahua holds the distinction of being the smallest recognized dog breed in the world, with individuals typically standing between five and eight inches at the shoulder and weighing no more than six pounds according to breed standards. Despite their diminutive size, these dogs possess a well-balanced, compact body with a slightly longer than tall proportion that creates a pleasing outline. The breed presents two distinct head types, though only the apple dome shape meets official breed standards. Apple head Chihuahuas feature a well-rounded skull resembling the shape of an apple, while deer head varieties display a longer muzzle and flatter skull with a more gradual stop between forehead and nose. Both types possess the characteristic molera, a soft spot on the skull that may persist throughout life. Two coat varieties exist within the breed, both equally acceptable in competition. Smooth coat Chihuahuas possess short, glossy fur that lies close to the body with a soft texture and occasional undercoat, while long coat varieties display a soft, flat or slightly wavy coat with feathering on the ears, legs, and tail. The breed standard accepts any color or combination of colors, including solid, marked, and splashed patterns. Common colorations include fawn, black, white, chocolate, cream, and various combinations with markings. Merle patterns also occur though remain controversial. Large, luminous eyes set wide apart in the skull give the Chihuahua its characteristic alert and expressive appearance. The ears are large and erect, held upright when alert and flaring slightly to the sides at approximately forty-five degrees when relaxed. The tail is moderately long, carried either in a sickle shape or in a loop over the back with the tip touching the back. Movement should be swift and purposeful with good reach in front and strong drive from behind. Despite their small stature, properly bred Chihuahuas should appear sturdy and well-constructed rather than fragile or spindly, capable of keeping up with moderate activity.

Dalmatian

Standing between nineteen and twenty-four inches at the shoulder and weighing forty-five to seventy pounds, this athletic breed presents a well-muscled, symmetrical silhouette built for endurance and speed. The body is square in proportion with a strong, level back and a deep chest that reaches to the elbows, providing ample lung capacity for the sustained running at which this breed excels. The neck is long, gracefully arched, and blends smoothly into well-laid-back shoulders that enable the free, effortless movement characteristic of the breed. The coat is perhaps the breed's most famous feature, consisting of short, dense, fine hair that lies close to the body with a sleek, glossy appearance. Dalmatian puppies are born completely white, with their distinctive spots beginning to develop around two weeks of age and continuing to appear throughout the first year of life. The spots should be round and well-defined, ranging from the size of a dime to a half-dollar, and distributed evenly across the body. Only two spot colors are accepted in the breed standard: black spots on a pure white background or liver brown spots on white. The spots on the head, legs, and tail are generally smaller than those on the body. The head is proportional to the body with a fairly broad skull that is flat on top and a moderate stop. Eyes are set moderately well apart, medium-sized, and round with an intelligent, alert expression. Eye color corresponds to spot color, being dark brown in black-spotted dogs and amber or light brown in liver-spotted individuals. The ears are set high, carried close to the head, and taper to a rounded tip. The tail is a natural extension of the topline, carried with a slight upward curve but never curled over the back.
