Maintenance is the difference between a trail that stays great for years and one that deteriorates into an impassable mess. Weekly walking the system takes thirty minutes and catches problems early. You're looking for water pooling, erosion starting, surface material spreading out, branches down, or rocks becoming hazards. Early intervention prevents small problems from becoming big ones.

Mowing or vegetation management keeps trails clear. Depending on your climate and vegetation, you might mow monthly during growing season or just a couple times a year. Seasonal management prevents problems. Spring flooding might require temporary rerouting around boggy areas. Summer drought might create dust problems that improve with light watering or material application. Fall leaf drop can hide hazards under leaf cover—you're clearing as needed.
