Secure any equipment that extends into the tank. Hang heaters, lights, or other equipment so they won't fall into the water if something shifts. Use appropriate mounting hardware rated for wet environments. Avoid makeshift solutions like using zip ties or duct tape to hold something in place. Use equipment designed for aquarium use.

Before you fill the tank, do a thorough check of your setup. Verify that all electrical connections are secure. Check that the stand is stable by gently pushing on different corners to make sure it's not wobbly. Visually inspect the tank for any cracks or damage. Fill slowly and watch for leaks before you fill completely. Better to catch a leak in an empty or half-full tank than after it's completely full.
