Guinea pigs with long hair, like Peruvians, sometimes seem to be insulated against cold by their coats. However, they still need appropriate temperature control. Long-haired guinea pigs shouldn't be assumed to handle cold better. Many long-haired breeds are actually more sensitive because wet bedding in their heavy coats promotes respiratory infections.
